Some types of dogs do not easily fit into DAW groups, and are dropped below the main groups.
I) GUARD DOGS POLICE DOGS MILITARY DOGS
II) PET DOGS HOUSE DOGS
III) SHOW DOGS COMPETITION DOGS BALLSPORT DOGS
IV) MODERN USEFUL DOGS (LIKE: GUIDE DOGS).
DAW explains how some types of dogs were bred, not how they should be bred for any newer use - like sniffer dogs or guide dogs.
In the traditional groups, types (breeds) of dogs have already been bred to do those task well. In the newer uses of dogs, there are no breeds already developed for those tasks, so dogs from other groups are trained (not bred) for that task.
If the trait wanted is NOT already found in the instincts of wolves, then what is often best is a highly trainable dog, not one with firm instincts for one aspect of the wolf.
